National Reconciliation Week

28.05.20

It represents our unwavering desire and commitment for all of God’s creation to live in harmony and peace. National Reconciliation Week began on 27th May, which is the anniversary of the 1967 referendum when Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islanders were first counted as people in the census. The end of National Reconciliation Week is marked by the date that Eddie Mabo was successful in his campaigning for Indigenous land rights and decision of the High Court of Australia to recognise Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islanders as the traditional owners of their land. We all have a role to play in reconciliation to make our communities safe, respectful and happy for all. Today all of our students participated in class liturgies to celebrate Nation Reconciliation Week where they reaffirmed their commitment to reconciliation in our college and wider community.
