Last night our Year 9 Rite Journey families celebrated the Homecoming and Return Ceremony marking the conclusion of their program. Families gathered to hear of the success and challenges across the year, students were presented with the challenge recognitions and gifts before reading a letter from their loved ones.
This week, the Mary MacKillop College 2025 Year 12 Leaders visited us as part of their Josephite Immersion Trip, in preparation for their roles next year. The students met with our 2025 Year 12 Leaders, toured our school and spoke about the similarities and differences in student leadership at our schools. They even had some time to get 'hands on', lending a hand with some of our primary classes.
Last Friday we came together as a school community to celebrate our Mass of Thanksgiving. It was an opportunity to reflect on a full and successful year. In the context of our College theme - Let Your Light Shine - we have lots of examples of our students doing great things this year. Some have demonstrated and achieved great things their learning. Others have experienced individual and team success at sporting events and competitions. We have seen students make a positive difference in the lives of others through fundraising and raising awareness for social justice issues. It was lovely to come together to celebrate all these things and more.
This week our College hosted a Graduation Ceremony for Aboriginal students who, this year, completed their studies in a Catholic school.
What an unforgettable last day of formal lessons for our Year 12 students! We kicked off with a final assembly, celebrating lots of achievements and memories.
The Student Leadership Handover Liturgy was celebrated last week which is an opportunity for the Senior Student Representative Council of 2024 to pass the baton on to those elected for 2025.
Our Term 4 Caritas Cubs Transition program started this week. We had 18 little people start their schooling adventure as they prepare for Reception in 2025. Goodluck to these children and their families as they learn, play and grow together for their transition from Kindergarten to school life at Caritas College.
Last Thursday the Year 12 students braved the elements and participated in a ‘sleep out’ to raise awareness for those Australians who are homeless. The aim of the event was for students to experience a glimpse of what it might be like for people who are currently without a permanent home or shelter. Jake Collins from the Salvation Army spoke to the students about the impact of homelessness which was empowering for students to hear.
This week our Year 9 students travelled to Ikara National Park to take part in their Rite Journey camp. The girls travelled to Ikara National Park on Wednesday and returned on Thursday, while the boys headed up for their overnight camp on Thursday and returned today.
Congratulations to all of the students from our parish and school community who celebrated the Sacrament of Confirmation last weekend. It was wonderful to have Bishop Karol join us in celebrating the full initiation of our young people as members of the Church.
